Summary

Catalog for an exhibition to mark the opening of the new Donald C. Harrison Health Sciences Library at the University of Cincinnati. The exhibition featured paintings and sculptures by Dr. Wolfgang Ritschel. Originally on display at the Harrison Library from 15 September through 15 December, 2008, following which it traveled to libraries throughout the United States for two years. The artwork in the exhibit represents the medical areas of diagnosis, therapy, surgery, and research, and is rooted in respect for the patient, the health professional, and the researcher. The exhibit does not shy away from unpleasant subjects, including such pieces as "Dyslexia", "When All Fades into Nothing", and "The Horror of Toxic Dangers." However, themes of hope and life are also represented, with pieces such as "Ode to Life", "The Conquest of Polio", and "Healing."
