Summary

Claire Rose is sick of her job in Charlotte drawing cell phones with arms and legs! And she's tired of being the wife of the (rather spectacularly unfaithful) president of the company! She's sick and tired, in fact, of the whole way her life turned out after she left tiny Piney Island in the Outer Banks. Thus she returns to the first little house she lived in on Piney, she returns to her girlhood friends there, and she returns to her chosen career as a starving artist. And most of all she returns to her first love, the sea. But Claire is shortly to learn, as many another before her, that it's not so easy to escape the world. The world tends to follow. So do husbands, even unfaithful ones. It's not long before a whole new set of troubles arrives to replace the old lot. And this time Claire must face problems without benefit of her husband's money and power. In fact, her husband's money and power kind of are the problem.Anyway, Claire must manage on her own. The closest thing she's got to a champion these days is an unworldly sort of beachcomber who has taken to hanging around, and he's sweet but about as simpleminded as an extremely attractive sea bass.Or is he?
