Lorton" in blue ink at head of each t.-p.; autograph of "Jane Lefroy 1841" (the Hon. Jane King, first child of Lady Frances Parsons and General Robert Edward King, 1st Viscount Lorton) in pencil or ink below bookplate in all vols. except vol. 4; wormhole on last 5 pages and endpapers of vol. 3 with no loss to text.

    Twenty plays edited and expurgated by Thomas Bowdler; the first 'bowdlerized' edition issued in 4 vols at Bath. In fact, the censorship originated with his sister, Henrietta, a famous blue-stocking and author of well-published "Sermons on the doctrines and duties of Christianity" so greatly admired by Beilby Porteus.
    Printer information ("Printed by Richard Cruttwell ... Bath") precedes bookseller information ("J. Hatchard ... London') on title pages.
