"This is one of five accordion books. Each book tells the story of one Holocaust survivor who was interviewed by the artist. The prints from all five books were published by Jonathan David Publishers, Inc. as 'Light in the Shadows.' Auschwitz is about a young woman who was deported from Hungary near the end of the war. She survived by jumping off a truck headed for the gas chambers. She was taken with other camp survivors to Sweden, from where she came to the United States. Her mother, who also survived Auschwitz, was trapped after the war in the Soviet Union." -- from the artists' website, retrieved 3/26/2012
