Summary

Narrated by Simon Baron-Cohen, this DVD presents viewers with the opportunity to both see and hear about the nature of Asperger Syndrome from children and adults themselves who have AS, as well as from doctors, school teachers, and family members. With video footage from a range of contexts, including leisure time at home, school lessons, and break time at school, as well as individual accounts of experiences of AS, Asperger Syndrome: A Different Mind provides insight into the lives of six individuals who range in age from Joe, aged 5, to twins Peter and Matthew, aged 22. It introduces the viewer to the special interests, speech, and language characteristics, social interaction difficulties, and cognitive differences of people with AS. It also highlights the positive developments that have taken place in recent years, within schools particularly, towards a better understanding of, and more effective provision for, children with AS. This includes acknowledgment of the different learning style of people with AS, which if well-supported can lead to remarkable specialism. This is an excellent introduction to Asperger Syndrome for parents, teachers, and other professionals. (University of Cambridge)
